Salalah Khareef Season 2026: Best Time to Visit, Weather Forecasts & Itinerary Planning

Salalah Khareef Season 2026

If you are looking for a cool summer escape from the UAE heat, Salalah in Oman is just two hours away by air. Every year during the Khareef season, this coastal city transforms into a green, misty paradise with waterfalls, flowing rivers, and cool mountain air — while the rest of the Gulf bakes in temperatures above 43°C. Here is everything you need to know before you go.

What Is the Khareef and When Should You Visit

The Khareef is a localised summer monsoon that hits Salalah’s Dhofar region every year. Despite the word meaning “autumn” in Arabic, it actually refers to this unique monsoon period that brings drizzle, low cloud, mist, and lush green landscapes. Temperatures during Khareef typically stay between 20°C and 27°C — a dramatic change from the dry heat across the UAE.

Many people think June is the best time to go, but travel experts say otherwise. Georges Kfoury, founder of Arabian Wanderers, says that mid-July to the end of September is when Salalah looks its absolute best — with frequent rain, dense fog, and full green cover. September still has some sunshine but the greenery remains beautiful. UAE residents benefit from visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to Oman, making the trip very easy to plan.

Before heading to Salalah, many residents also spend a day exploring the amazing Places to Visit in Dubai as part of a longer holiday plan.

How to Get There and What It Costs

By air, the journey from Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah takes under two hours. Airlines like Emirates, flydubai, Air Arabia, Etihad, Oman Air, Wizz Air and SalamAir all operate on this route. Booking before July is strongly recommended as return fares can exceed Dh1,000 during peak season.

Many UAE residents are also choosing bus tour packages as a more affordable option. A coach trip from Dubai takes around 16 hours but includes return travel, three-star hotel accommodation, meals and guided tours — all for around Dh1,290 per person when booked early, rising to Dh1,490 closer to the season.

Arabian Wanderers offers a small-group guided package for Dh2,500 per person including accommodation, meals, transport, guided tours and airport transfers. Return flights are separate. If you are travelling with family and want to enjoy some great food before or after your trip, check out the Best Food In Sharjah for affordable and delicious dining options across the emirate.

Top Places to Visit in Salalah

Salalah has a wide range of attractions to keep you busy throughout the Khareef season. Top spots include Wadi Darbat for seasonal waterfalls and boat rides, Jabal Samhan for panoramic mountain views, Mughsail Beach for blowholes and white sand, Al Fazayah Beach for turquoise waters, and the Tawi Atair Sinkhole — one of the largest sinkholes in the world. The Anti-Gravity Point, where vehicles appear to roll uphill, is also a popular and unique stop.

Travel experts recommend arriving at major sites by 7am or 8am before crowds build up. Pack a light jacket, raincoat, waterproof shoes, mosquito repellent and good hiking shoes — the weather can be wetter and cooler than many visitors expect. For those who prefer staying closer to home this summer, the waterfront and dining scene around Dubai Marina also makes for a relaxing evening out before any trip.
