Dubai Customs launched the iDeclare app back in 2018 and it still remains one of the most practical tools any traveller can have on their phone before landing. You declare everything in advance from your seat on the plane, walk through the airport, and save yourself a long wait at the customs counter. What Is iDeclare and Who Is It For?
iDeclare is a free mobile app launched by the Dubai Customs Authority. It allows passengers arriving in Dubai to submit their customs declaration electronically, either before they land or after they arrive at the airport. The whole point of the app is to replace the old paper form system and cut down the time you spend at customs. Dubai Customs says the app reduces clearance waiting time by more than 60 per cent, from around 45 minutes down to about 5 minutes. It is available for both iPhone and Android. Precious metals such as gold, silver, jewellery, and valuable stones also need to be declared. How to Use iDeclare Step by Step
Download the iDeclare app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store before your trip. Once you open the app, tap the Check Eligibility button on the home screen. If you do need to declare something, tap Start Declaration and choose the type of declaration you are making. The options include personal effects, commercial goods, cash, or a combination. Can You Declare After You Land?
Yes. iDeclare supports both pre-arrival and post-arrival declarations. If you forgot to submit before your flight or did not have time to do it on the plane, you can still open the app after you land and submit before you reach the customs counter. The iDeclare app covers declarations at all airport terminals within Dubai. If you are a business importing commercial goods through Dubai Trade, that is a separate system entirely. For individual travellers bringing personal items, gifts, or cash, iDeclare is what you need. If your item is on the prohibited list — narcotics, illegal pornography, certain weapons — declaring it on iDeclare does not make it legal.
